How do you make brownies without an oven...Crockpot...of course.

I've been wanting brownies since I planned on making them on Thursday night for the kids and found out my oven is broke. Needed a new element. So we're waiting on our element to be shipped to us. I will have me some brownies! Here's what I did: All of the sites I looked at had recipes that called for a mix. Well, I didn't have one so I just made this brownie recipe I used off of Allrecipes.com

1/2 cup vegetable oil (I did 1/2 c applesauce instead of oil)
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (eliminated this cause I was out)
2 eggs
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Here's the recipe for the brownies in the crockpot: CDKitchen.com

INGREDIENTS:
4 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 cup water
1 large egg
1 box (16 ounce size) brownie mix
1 can (14 ounce size) sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup rolled oats (not instant)
1/4 cup sweetened coconut flakes
1/4 cup chopped walnuts

PREPARATION:
Use a 2-quart slow cooker.

Put the melted butter into your crock, and add water, egg, and the package of brownie mix. Mix until none of the brownie powder is left dry; the batter will be quite thick.

Pour the can of sweetened condensed milk over the top. Add the oats, then the coconut, then the walnuts. (I've never made brownies with sweetened condensed milk I used fat free hope it still turns out ok).

Cover, but prop the lid open with a chopstick or skewer, and cook on high for 2 to 4 hours.

After 2 hours, test with a knife, and continue to check every 30 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand with the lid off for 10 minutes before cutting. I'll let you know in a few hours how they turned out.

A woman and her chocolate will not be separated! EVER!

  1. So most recipes said use parchment paper. I didn't have any. I should have checked on the brownies at 1h30min and turned the crockpot off and let them finish cooking without it being on. They were a touch unedible. lol Oh well. Today we're breaking out the easy bake oven. I will have sweets!
